Jazz News of Note

*Composer and arranger Neal Hefti, who did significant work with both Count Basie and Woody Herman, as well as penning the themes for TV shows The Odd Couple and Batman, died Saturday at the age of 85. Marc Myers has a wonderful write-up on Hefti at Jazzwax. Also check out Marc’s recent provocative take on the canonical status of Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue (a longer version appears in the September issue of Jazziz).
